Insect Sites
Here are some of the sites that I use on a regular basis:
The International Lepidoptera Survey – especially the forum. I’ve learned more about leps from the people here than from any other single place.
Lynn Scott’s Lepidoptera Images – One of the best private websites for moths. She is in the Ottawa area, quite near where I do a lot of collecting at my mother-in-laws so we end up with a lot of the same stuff.
North American Moth Photographers Group – The most complete set of photo’s for ID’ing moths. Well organized by Hodges with multiple photo’s for many of the moths.
Butterflies of America – A lot of photo’s with a lot of information, this site is excellent to help with ID’ing butterflies.
Butterflies and Moths of North America – A complete site with lots of photos and data by species.
Sphingidae of the Unitied States – a site by Bill Oehlke from PEI, Canada. Lots of information about Sphingids and a lot of photos.
World’s Largest Saturniidae Site – exactly what it says. Run by Bill Oehlke from PEI, Canada.
The Moth’s of Southeastern Arizona – a site by Bruce Walsh. After my trip a couple of years ago to AZ, this site was a great help for ID’ing what I had caught. Also has a good reference section on techniques and equipment.
The Butterflies of Southeastern Arizona – a site by Bruce Walsh. This site was a great help in ID’ing the butt’s I caught on my last trip to AZ.
Moths in a Connecticut Yard – a site by John Himmelman from Killingworth, CT. Lots of great live moths pics with little write-ups on most. Excellent site for cold winter days.
